In 1996, during reorganisation of science in the country, the Latvian government planned to liquidate the state scientific institution “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”. To maintain the work places, the researchers and employees of the mentioned Institute organised, on December 27, 1996, a non-profit organisation “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Science”, Ltd., registered in the Enterprise Register of Republic of Latvia on January 15, 1997. It is a non-profit company organised by legal and physical persons without participation of public capital. In August of the 1998, the general meeting of participants of the non-profit organisation “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences” made decision on initiation of privatisation of the state scientific institution “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”.

On the May 10, 2000, with the Decree No 219 of the Cabinet the decision to privatise the non-profit organisation, the state scientific institution “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, was made.

On the October 31, 2000, the non-profit organisation, stock company “Privatisation Agency” make the decision to merge the to be privatised non-profit state scientific institution “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences” with the non-profit “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Science”, Ltd., using the method of reorganisation.

On the July 17, 2001, there was accepted and on the August 14 signed the Contract on merger of to be privatised non-profit organisation, the state “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, Ltd., to the non-profit “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, Ltd. With takeover of the rights and liabilities of the non-profit organisation “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, on the September 28, 2001, there was changed the name of the reorganised Company, confirming it as Non-profit organisation “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, Ltd., the core capital increased, 20% of which to that moment belonged to the state. On the October 29, 2001, the changes in the basic documents of the non-profit organisation “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, Ltd. were registered in the Enterprise Register.

According to the decision No 4, p. 28 “On the holder of state capital share of the non-profit organisation “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, Ltd.” of the protocol of the meeting of the Cabinet of Republic of Latvia on the January 22, 2002, the state capital share of the Company was transferred to privatisation. In the meeting of the Board of Privatisation Agency on the July 25, 2002, there were approved the regulations of privatisation of the state capital share of the non-profit organisation “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, Ltd.. On the October 9, 2003, the decision of the Board of the Privatisation Agency No 197/1526 “On the finishing of privatisation of the state capital share of the non-profit organisation “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, Ltd.”, was made.

According to the “Law on the implementing provisions of the Commercial Law”, the meeting of the shareholders of the non-profit organisation “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, Ltd. on the October 27, 2004 approved of statutes of the “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, Ltd. developed in accordance with the legislation. On the November 22, 2004 the Enterprise Register of Republic of Latvia made the decision to enter the capital company - “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Sciences”, Ltd.

On the January 2006, the “Institute of Economics of Latvian Academy of Science”, Ltd. was registered in the register of scientific institutions of the Ministry for Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia.
